About Us

Nikki Murphy, M.S. CCC-SLP is the owner of Icon Speech & Language Therapy in Reno, Nevada. She is a proud third-generation Nevadan, and first-generation college graduate. With a passion for best-practice, evidence-based services and client-centered care, Nikki has expertise in the fields of augmentative & alternative communication (AAC) and assistive technology (AT). She specializes in communication difficulties associated with developmental disabilities, complex medical needs, childhood apraxia of speech, and childhood trauma.

Nikki served on the faculty of Speech-Pathology and Audiology at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine from September 2016 – May 2023; she continues to teach graduate courses and supervise graduate learners as needed. A voracious learner, Nikki holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music (voice), and a Master of Science in Speech Pathology from the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). She is nearing completion of a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Special Education and Disability Studies also from UNR. She is a Fellow Member of the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Nikki is licensed to practice speech-language pathology in Nevada, California, and Florida.

Nikki spends her “free” time with her family (husband, daughter, two dachshunds and a basset hound) watching movies & TV shows, attending musicals, reading books, listening to about 30 different podcasts. She is always planning the next family vacation.
